Bill's Courses at Portland Community College (PCC)


Bill currently teaches courses at Portland Community College in the Computer Aided Design & Drafting (CADD) Department.

Usually in the Fall term at PCC, Bill teaches CADD 100: CADD Orientation. This course introduces students to product types and manufacturing operations through visual media or facility tours. It covers fundamentals of technical report writing, memos, and resume development with instruction in written expression for industry. The course includes internet research of technical products related to drafting and design, and an orientation to the overall CADD industry, and its careers, opportunities, jobs, and required skills. Various related exercises are assigned for student learning.

Usually in the Spring term at PCC, Bill teaches CADD 245: Product Design & Development Fundamentals. This course introduces students to the basic knowkledge and the practical application of industry standard product design and development (PD&D) processes and associated tools. A variety of PD&D overview topics are covered. A variety of related design exercises are assigned for student learning.

In the summer term of 2023, PCC is launching a new course taught by Bill: CADD 299D: Industrial Design Studio I. This course will explore the fields of industrial design (ID) and product design (PD). Students will learn and practice the processes, skills, methodologies, and opportunities, using CADD as a core tool, for product design development. A variety of industrial design and product design topics will be presented, with a special focus on product design form, usability, function, and aesthetics.
